Technical Ice Course
18 April 2005
We awoke to yet another perfect day at BC. The main focus of today was negotiating a technical ice course at the base of the Khumbu Icefall. Paul and Luis rigged ropes over awkward and steep ice terrain so members could practice ascending, traversing and descending. The refreshing of ice climbing techniques gives confidence and helps simulate further acclimatization through the exertion involved. Folks did extremely well! All members are awed at the abilities of our blind companion, Gerrard Gosens, who revels in the technical challenges. The next step is to head into the Khumbu Icefall itself!
Mike for the AC team.
