Moet Finish – Expedition Total Success
June 5th 2005    Alt: 1400m
A dusty bumpy finish and we are back in Kathmandu tired yet still hungry enough to enjoy a celebration dinner at Kilroys complete with French Moet Chandon –Champagne at 8848 Rupees a bottle!
Also at dinner are the two New Yorkers Dan and Greg, ex-rowers turned climbers. They summited in difficult conditions and literally limped off the mountain – one with minor frost bite the other with such a serious lung infection he needed Julian to administer IV- antibiotics and oxygen which he used until BC on his trek down. They had rowed internationally for USA but rate Everest as their hardest race yet.
Also good news is Paul and Namgyl are down safe to BC. They will be back in Ktm on the 6th June.
We now have confirmation that the DCXP/Project Himalaya expedition is a total success – all members down safe, 50% successful to summit of the clients and 100% of the clients made it right through the expedition and had a summit push. Unfortunately for Duncan and Jamie (previous summiteers) they did not summit this year, but these things happen and it was always about the clients not the guides for summiting.
It has been a long battle with boredom this season but patience has prevailed, both Jamie and Duncan are extremely happy with the result and enjoyed the trip. We had a great (but small) group of people, who were always positive and determined, we were also the social drop in centre for ABC so there was never a dull moment. The Sherpa team worked hard on the mountain and were always quick to lend a smile or a hand with any work around ABC. Without them there would have been no expedition, although we put one foot in front of the other on the climbs – they did so many times with loads of equipment – in order for us to succeed. A very warm thanks to the Sherpa team for their efforts, Dawa, Temba, Ongchu and Namgyl – Cheers! To Jamie for putting it all together and holding it on track over so many months a fine effort to provide so much, for such a small team and to keep it all going for two and half months great stuff. Also a big thanks to my Sponsor Mountain Designs Australia for supplying me with all the great climbing clothing and equipment for all my climbs over the last 7 years.
Now with the whole team back in Kathmandu, the truck unpacked and the glasses empty thanks for sharing the journey with us,
Until the next adventure
