The team at ABC

Well it’s 7:30 pm here on the Tibet-Nepal border and this group’s fading fast. David just folded first and headed for his tent with his warm water bottle. The ipods are still working and we’re finishing off the night with a bit of Bruce Springsteen. We took this photo moments ago as I suspected we were headed for an early evening.

Today we ventured up towards CI for an acclimitization hike. It was a bit cold, wet and windy today and the tents are a bit soggy. We went out to approximately 19,000 ft./5900 m. The gang was feeling strong and again it was good to get out and move our bodies a bit after sitting in ABC so much.

Tomorrow the plan is to rise a bit earlier than we have been and get on our way for a carry to CI. After looking at the Sherpa calendar these guys have decided the best date for the puja will be Monday. That meant switching our carry to tomorrow. We’ve heard the other teams here at ABC will also be doing pujas on Monday. That means a festive and social day on Monday with the other teams which should be good for everyone. Tomorrow’s carry will be long since it’s our first trip up to CI. We’ll get progressively much quicker as our bodies adapt. Despite the damp weather it seems to have been extremely calm up high on the mountain over the past few days. The past two days have seen a couple of great summit days if anyone were in position. We all hope for similar days in a couple weeks or so.

This is a special message from Tony to his oldest son Matthew who turns 9 on September 5th. Happy Birthdat Matt – Have a great Day ! Love Dad. Also Happy Birthday to my older brother Nick who celebrates his birthday on September 6th – I won’t mention his age.
