Question - "What does having a dream mean to you?"
Answer - "A dream is a goal glimmering in the distance; it is an inner calling which, when accomplished,
serves as the rite of passage into wisdom." Erden Eruç - Sep 17, 2004

KickStarter campaign to finance our documentary!
    July 23, 2013
Time flies! It was a year ago on July 21 that I returned to Bodega Bay in California, to conclude my human powered circumnavigation of the globe. Now it is time to share the story of that determined effort with the public with a fine documentary film.

We need your help to spread the word to potential supporters. We just launched a 30-day KickStarter campaign which will finance the production costs of the documentary. The campaign will last through August 18th. Details are on the KickStarter page. Please make sure to browse the swags on the right hand side column.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of 50,000 USD before our August 18 deadline to turn hundreds of hours of footage into an enjoyable narrative for our audience. The shorter version of this URL is: http://kck.st/1bN4nUW which will come in handy in Twitter for example where our handle is @aroundnover.

As I mentioned in my last dispatch, Dannul Dailey will be the filmmaker for our upcoming documentary: "Castaway with Purpose." This website also has an obvious link to the same KickStarter project page.

Would you be kind to share the KickStarter campaign URL with your circle of friends, coworkers, employers? We do not yet have a corporate sponsor for this documentary. Although we are relying on public support here, a documentary that may be around for generations to come could be a good/affordable sponsorship opportunity since sponsors can appear as “Producer” or as sponsor depending.

Should your friends become a backer at any level at all, they will automatically be included in email updates from our KickStarter campaign blog. We will periodically post progress messages and other relevant information about the documentary in that blog. If they are in Seattle, the $350 ticket for a couple on the ROYAL ARGOSY Cruise is a great deal. We would love to have 60 of our supporters there for sure to have a great outing altogether.

    HOW IT WORKS

Simply put, KickStarter crowdsourcing process is an UP or DOWN vote by the public. We set the goal of reaching a minimum of $50,000 in total pledges in 30 days. Every backer pledges an amount and we wait. If by August 18 (Day 30) the total of all pledges exceeds $50k, then KickStarter charges all the pledges, gathers the funds, makes a payment to Around-n-Over using Amazon Payments. If the total falls short of the $50k target, then no one pays anything, we receive nothing, the whole thing goes away.

In the unlikely scenario that we fail to reach $50k, we would still return to our backers and ask them to consider donating directly to Around-n-Over outside of KickStarter. We still want to double that amount to $100k to be able to pursue specific interviews and reshoots of supporters of the journey in remote areas, dedicated music and better quality in post production.

In any case, the contribution by the backer will be tax-deductible once it reaches Around-n-Over. We will issue a tax receipt to our backers acknowledging the net amount that they will have paid into the campaign (contribution less value of swag received). Around-n-Over is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and facilitating the documentary production falls within our mission to educate and to inspire especially children. Any processing fees by KickStarter and Amazon will be entered in our books as our fundraising costs.

Thank you for your help and for your consideration!

BTW -- special thanks go to Chris Mohn at Revolution Marketing for hosting our KickStarter Launch party in their office space by Lake Union in Seattle.
