In Cod We Trust
21st May 2005
Well as we are British we may as well start with a moan about the weather! Its has been that fine drizzle all day, in fact for those of you who have seen the comedian Peter Kay you might remember his sketch about the School Dinner Ladies if you do then hopefully you are smiling if not smile anyway, because you have probably had better weather than we have.
So far it has been a great few days and word of our adventure is spreading rapidly. Its great to witness peoples reactions to our plans and there has been some very entertaining conversations. The one that sticks with me so far was the conversation we had with our taxi driver on the way from the airport to the apartment. As initial welcoming conversations go it was hardly heart warming. It went something like this;
Taxi Driver; So what you guy's here for?
Crew; Were here to row the Atlantic
Brief pause while reply registered
Taxi Driver; Are you guy's serious?
Crew; Yeah
Taxi Driver; Man I’ve seen some people come here over the years with their boats, and my god many have left but I haven’t heard of many making it. You know just last week a USS Coastguard ship was bought in with six seriously injured crew, apparently the whole ship was nearly rolled they were hit by this enormous freak wave. Well guys I wish you luck.
Crew; Thanks.
Welcome to St John's.
For the record we believe there has been 34 attempts on the North Atlantic and 22 of those have been unsuccessfull.
Yours The Crew
