The Barber of Seville
18 May 2005    me-5300
Shaving day....the day that the un-civilized, attempt to become human again.

I fondly remember being close to my grandfather as a small boy and wondering what that wonderful smell was. Turns out it was Old Spice and water. I couldn't wait to shave as an adolescent, then as a young man, I couldn't wait to be able to grow a beard!

These days, while spending so much time on mountains and in remote corners of the globe, shaving is the one ritual that keeps the animal side, in touch with the urban side. Armed with a basin of hot water and the screen for my digi camera, I can instantly erase weeks of sweat, sunscreen , and effort. A good feeling these days, as Piers and I wait paitently for winds on the south and north side to drop to a summittable level. At this point, anything is better than the 70k, -35c condtions that are apparently racking the upper mountain.

We will keep all of you posted on progress..but in celebration of the new Star Wars film coming out, Piers and I are focusing on a favorite Yoda quote;

"do, or do not. There is no try."
