Last Day in the High Arctic & The Final Dispatch
Today is our final day in the Canadian High Arctic before starting our long journey home; arriving at London Heathrow on the morning of Wednesday 3rd May. We have spent the day packing our equipment, joining the Polar Watch students, who have made a number of presentations to the local school and Hamlet officials and enjoying more coffee and biscuits from our host Aziz 'Ozzy' Kheraj at South Camp Inn. We are all getting excited about reuniting with our familes and loved ones.
We had our weigh-in last night with the following weight losses recorded since we began our trek. Colour Sergeant Rob McIntyre RM : 30lb, Marine Matthew Vivian RM : 26lb, Lead Diver John Carroll RN : 20lb, Captain Sean Chapple RM : 20lb and Leading Medical Assistant Phil Towers RN : 15lb.
The students have been making the most of their final hours skiing with Polar Watch guide Adey Cole MBE and have been kindly supported by the Polar Challenge Race with the loan of equipment for which we are most grateful - a special thanks to event organiser Tony Martin for his support.
As this will be the final dispatch for the Northern journey we would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported this unique adventure. From sponsors, supporters, fellow expeditions, familes and friends in the UK to the residents of Resolute Bay and more the generosity and assistance has been inspiring. We hope you will continue to support and follow our venture as we move into our next quest - the South Pole.
