The Future

So
here we are, entering a new millennium, exploring our wonderful world in
a true tribute to Jules Verne. We climb Everest, dive the oceans, hike
jungles, sail remote islands, and cross the Arctics. We use technology
to share our
discoveries with strangers, bonding instantly over satellite. We have
been to the moon, plan for a voyage to Mars and we discover other planets.
In the circle of adventure friends at Explorers Web, you will find all
kinds of people. There are the young and the old, the athletes and the disabled,
the rich and the shabby,
the academics and the illiterate.
Gone are the days of large expedition politics, family fortunes or fine
titles in secretive societies commissioning grand adventure. Today,
we are all free to discover and
explore, no matter who we are or where we come from.
A strong will, not inheritance, will find the
funds. A curious mind, not a high-hat mission, will find the right
challenge. Clever application of existing technology, not an inventors
genius, will create a Microsoft.
So what's next? Even formerly snobbish organizations like NASA have opened up to this new
era of global intelligence. This new brilliance is divided between all
of us living on this planet. Internet, mobile communication and fast
transportation connect this infinite earth brain. We are all assigned a
part in it and we are all needed.
This new global mind is gaining size and speed faster than Intel
technology and IBM computers. It offers knowledge
–
at no cost –
to anyone
who desires it. We still have to work
hard and be diligent, but we are handed unbelievable opportunities.
So where is our heart's desire? In artificial intelligence?
Robotics?
Space travel? PET scanning our brain to increase our intelligence and
even compassion towards each other perhaps? Cure cancer and create
spares for all body parts? Have a free MIT education over Internet in
Bangladesh? Join hands and erase cultural frictions? It is all possible
–
in our own
lifetime.
Our worst enemy is no longer poverty, race or disability. It is instead
greed, rivalry and boredom. Aah - the pits of the Roman Empire!
Let's get past that stuff and instead embrace the joys of our planet and the lure of the twinkling Universe.
Today, even kids scuba dive. Teenagers and senior citizens climb
Everest. Ladies row solo across the north Atlantic ocean and wind surf
unsupported across the Pacific. The final
countdown on cancer is up. We map our genes and clone
our animals. Heart transplant survivors climb the Matterhorn and blind
mountaineers scale Seven Summits. There are flying cars in production, soon to be offered at
$50,000.
Private mini subs for rent. We can make diamonds.
But gold is only found where our stars are born. We can't manufacture it
and have to make due with our assigned share. So perhaps it will be gold
all over again that will propel our discovery of new worlds. Space is coming
closer.
Telescopes monitor the birth of the Universe and the very beginning of
time. We have found countless new planets and are just waiting to
discover one just like our own. Private space rockets are under
construction at this very moment, built by individuals who aim for another solar system.
Explorers Web and Human Edge Tech tracks down awesome projects,
and brings them
right into your home. We find
–
or make –- the most thrilling
expeditions and technology.
Man has done well thus far, and the future is brighter than ever. Be
there. Make a plan and go and get a life beyond your wildest dreams. And
if you bring Contact 2.0, we'll be there to check on you..;). |
