ISP - slow connection

Don't count on your ISP (internet service provider) to be able to handle your slow satellite connection. Service providers  usually do not expect anyone to access the server at a lower rate than 10 k, and you might get timed-out, making it impossible or difficult to establish a connection.

Call your ISP and, most importantly, run your complete set up well in advance. Ask the ISP people if they have a special line for slow connections. Asking for a fixed IP instead of a dynamic could help.

On one occasion, the connection worked fine in trials, but failed suddenly in Base Camp. Turned out that the ISP had changed their settings without notice. Adding a second ISP for backup is a smart move.
