Size and speed of information

A 10 kb size message (or document) is not equivalent to a 10kb speed connection.

Document size 10 kb indicates a size of 10 kilo byte. Connection size 10 kb indicates a speed of 10 kilo bit.
A bit is a zero or a one. There are 8 bits to one byte.

One character is 1 byte (8 bits). Typing a message of 1000 characters will render a size of 1000 bytes or 1 kilobyte (kb). Sending this message will require sending 8 x 1000, or 8 kilobits (kb).  If your connection is 2.4 kb per second, the message will require app. 3 sec to transmit.

One thousand characters transmitted over 2.4 kb in three seconds would require an ideal world however. Instead, all kinds of other information and commands will be attached to your message, plus it takes additional time just to connect. To save time and money, try to bundle and send e-mails in batches.
