THURAYA DATA: SO-2510 and SG-2520 data connection
GmPRS and dialup for Windows and Mac
For connection of SG-2520 to Pocket PC, please refer to the CONTACT software
manual accessible from your personal admin interface.
#WINDOWS XP Direct Dialup connection
Hardware requirement:
1. Thuraya SG-2520 or SO-2510 model with a SIM card provisioned for data (all SIM
cards from www.humanedgetech.com are
data ready). For GmPRS the SIM card has to be provisioned for GmPRS as well.
2. Thuraya USB Data cable (provided with the phone) - Not needed if Bluetooth
connection is used.
3. Thuraya SG-2520 or SO-2510 CD with Windows driver (Note! different drivers
for the two phones).
4. Laptop running Windows XP (Windows 98, ME, or 2000 Professional should also
work fine but have not been tested by the HET team). Vista drivers are not yet
available from Thuraya.
Install the USB driver
> insert and run the Thuraya 2510 CD or Thuraya 2520 CD
> For 2510 - click S/W installation
> For 2520 - click Upgrader
> charge the phone fully
> check that "USB" is selected on the phone (Menu>settings>Data Connection>Data
Port)
> insert the Thuraya data cable in the phone and the laptop
> The laptop will display "Found new hardware wizard"
> no, not this time > insert the Thuraya 2510 CD >install the software
automatically
> The laptop will display "Found new hardware wizard" > finish
(The found new hardware wizard will be repeated 2 times)
CHECK! Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > PHONE AND MODEM OPTIONS > MODEMS > The
"SO-2510/SG-2520 USB Modem" driver should now be displayed. If the modem is not
displaying. Restart. Create the dial-up connection:
Note! Instructions may differ slightly between computers
>Go to Network Connections in Control Panel.
>Click on "Create a New Connection” on the left-hand side.
>Choose Connect Directly to the Internet.
>Choose to setup your connection manually.
>Choose "Connect using a dial-up modem.
>Choose the Thuraya Modem that you created earlier.
>ISP name - Thuraya).
>Phone number 1722.
>Create this connection for anyone
>Leave the username and password blank.
>Uncheck make this the default internet connection
>Add a shortcut
>Click "Finish” to create your connection.
Dial the connection to the Internet:
Click on the shortcut connection that you have just created.
Press Dial.
The progress window will appear on the screen. You should see "Data Call" on the
screen of the phone when the call is being made. After a few seconds, the window
will disappear and you will be connected to the Internet.
#WINDOWS XP GmPRS connection
Hardware requirements:
SO-2510 should have firmware Version 5.7 or higher.
Update instructions SO-2510
SG-2520 should have firmware Version 4.4 or higher, but lower version will also
work but buggy.
Update instructions SG-2520
Install the USB driver If the USB driver is not installed follow the instructions above
Create the GmPRS connection:
Note! Instructions may differ slightly between computers >Go to Network Connections in Control Panel.
>Click on "Create a New Connection” on the left-hand side.
>Choose Connect Directly to the Internet.
>Choose to setup your connection manually.
>Choose "Connect using a dial-up modem.
>Choose the Thuraya Modem that you created earlier.
>ISP name - Thuraya GmRPS).
>Phone number enter: *99#
>Create this connection for anyone
>Leave the username and password blank.
>Uncheck make this the default internet connection
>Add a shortcut
>Click "Finish” to create your connection.
Dial the connection to the Internet:
Follow instructions from above
#Connections over Bluetooth (SG-2520 only)
It should be possible to create this dialup on a Mac as well. Not yet tested by the HET team.
Set the SG 2520 as follows:
> Menu > connectivity > Bluetooth
> Bluetooth - on
> Visibility - show
> Modem - dialup network
> Authorization - dun profile
Setting up the laptop (there are many different bluetooth interfaces so these
instructions will differ between computers):
> After setting up the phone as described above go to the laptops Bluetooth
connection manager and search for Bluetooth devices.
> The SG-2520 should be displayed. Right-click and select "Connect Dial up
Networking"
> Enter a pin code (use the same for the laptop and phone). 1111 is default
> Installation procedure will begin
> Give the dialup connection a name Thuraya Bluetooth
> Phone number: If using GmPRS insert *99#
> Phone number: If using standard dialup insert 1722
> Leave username and password blank
Access the dialup through START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTIONS
or through the Bluetooth Connection Manager.
CHECK! Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > PHONE AND MODEM OPTIONS > MODEMS > The
new modem driver should now be displayed as "Standard 33500bps Modem".
