iPAQ 2210/2215
Compaq's iPAQ PDA is the most versatile
palm-held computer on the market and currently recommended by
HumanEdgeTech. The 2200 series where first introduced in 2003. Run on Windows Pocket-PC.
iPAQ 2200 has proved reliable. It has survived extreme
humidity and temperatures down to -55C. It
has survived at 8000 meters on Everest, working with Contact
software. Due to their lack of rotating hard-drives, the hand-helds are more reliable at
altitude than laptops.
However, it is still recommended to bring two PDA's for prolonged expeditions.

HumanEdgeTech doesn't offer laptops, but assist with recommendations and setup.
Please note that laptop failure is common at altitude. Always bring
a second back-up to
BC.

Sony DSC-P31/P72/P93
A wide array of digital cameras will work
with the PDA/Laptop and CONTACT3.0 publishing software. Several
factors have to be addressed however when choosing a
camera for a complete expedition- or outdoor setup.
1. Power - an AA battery powered camera will accommodate to the same charging
setup
as other expedition gear (PDA, sat phone, etc).
2. Video clip format. There is presently no video-editing software
available for PDA. The preferred format is therefore MPEG, in
order to
work in a majority of players and operative systems when played
back over Internet.
3. Sound - the Sony DSC-P31 records video clips without sound,
which is essential when using a slow Iridium connection. If using Globalstar or Thuraya the recommendation is to go with DSC-P72
or DSC-P93.
4. Interchangeable system: Most expeditions use Sony Video cams
with memory sticks. The Sony range of Digital Cameras allows for
effortless switching between different units.
