A Valentines Day summit on Edwards Island
14 February 2006
We awoke this morning surrounded by what is known as brash ice. This ice, once settled in, can sometimes lock a boat in place for quite a long time, not unlike the stick in a Popsicle. We knew that an ascent of Edwards Island would be a race against the ice firming up around the boat. Under threatening skies, we boarded our little rubber zodiacs to thrash our way to the shore. Once there, the only way to go was up! Bit by bit, with intermittent clearing, we climbed up towards the summit. Mark Sedon, who was in front, got to the rock band just below the summit and led what proved to be the key to the top. We all agreed to name this part the Sedon Step. A bit further on, the summit was reached! Everyone made the top in fine form, thereby we think making the 1st ascent of Edwards Island!
We then took a few photos, and headed back down to the boat. After again fighting the ice back to the Evohe, we are in the process of pulling anchor, and exiting our little cove, onwards to the next adventure. Stay tuned!

Luis and crew.
