Prospect Point playtime
17 February 2006
Here anchored off Prospect Point, today was a day that saw everyone "sacking it up", (this is a phrase we started using to describe going hardcore after seeing it in a skiing video a few days ago). Three teams left the boat with two on skis and one team on snowshoes, each with a different goal in mind. Guy's crew headed off towards two dramatic peaks, summiting both and then skiing down (they have yet to name them). Luis' crew climbed up a couloir on what we were calling Peak Three, (renamed Peak Archie for Mark's newborn nephew), stopping 10 feet short of the summit due to a cornice of snow overhanging the other side of the top. They then skied down as well, racking up two descents between Guy's group and theirs. Marks group got stopped short of the summit as well, due to hard ice and 25knot winds. They chose to name the peak Kiwiana.

Everyone has made it safely back to the boat, after getting soaked due to the high winds and driving freezing rain for most of the day. But now with a vino tinto in hand, (red wine) and soggy climbing gear hung out to dry, we are looking forward to dinner, and then seeing what tomorrow's weather will allow us to accomplish (time to sack it up yet again)!

Luis and crew.

A Valentines Day summit on Edwards Island    14 February 2006
We awoke this morning surrounded by what is known as brash ice. This ice, once settled in, can sometimes lock a boat in place for quite a long time, not unlike the stick in a Popsicle. We knew that an
